Local Community

Emily and SawyerIn 2012, HERO served a volume of 3,119 individuals and agencies locally. Here is a story of just one family of the many people who have benefited from our organization:

Emily first heard about HERO while at a Board meeting for another local organization where they were discussing different places in the community that help children. Emily is the mom of Sawyer, a happy boy who has autism, epilepsy, global developmental delays, and ADHD. She first came to HERO for incontinence supplies for Sawyer, but found so much more.

When Sawyer is in public situations, it’s easy for him to feel overwhelmed. Being in a push chair helps keep him calm and feeling secure. Sawyer received a push chair from HERO. He was outgrowing his three year old chair and it was wearing out. “A new chair is a couple thousand dollars”, Emily explained. She couldn’t imagine spending that every three years and was astonished when she found a new red one at HERO for a suggested handling fee of $100. The day Emily picked up the chair, she proudly exclaimed, “I can’t wait to put Sawyer in it and push him around. I just know he’s going to love it.”

After using the chair for awhile, the whole family took a trip to the Mall of America. Emily wrote, “We were able to utilize the new chair from HERO. It was fantastic. We were able to avoid meltdowns due to sensory overload and were able to keep Sawyer safely strapped in his chair while at the mall. Having this chair from HERO has made community outings and family trips so much easier ans safer; not only for Sawyer but for the rest of the family as well.”

HERO continues to serve our local community with needed supplies for low to no cost. We would love to see you stop in at HERO.
