Changing Lives and Healthcare in Developing Countries

Posted on July 5, 2012 by heroadmin in News No Comments

Imagine being born into a family living on $1 or $2 each day; going to school is not an everyday occurrence and access to food and clean water is scarce. Think about living without the basic necessities and the health problems it can cause. Dental issues, infection, and disease can cripple the healthiest of babies, children, and adults. Even the most qualified doctors are unable to properly treat these issues without adequate supplies and equipment. Yet, there is a solution to this seemingly hopeless situation.

Today, HERO will fill a semi-truck with equipment and supplies for Globus Relief in Salt Lake City, UT. The pallets of boxes will include: one dental exam chair, three new dental assist chairs, x-ray view boxes, hospital blood pressure monitors, surgical supplies and wound care supplies. These discarded items are able to have new life by allowing doctors, dentists, nurses, and other medical volunteers to provide needed healthcare to people in countries like Brazil, Mongolia, Nepal and many others.

Explaining their appreciation, Anna Darbonne of Globus Relief stated, “We’ve been extremely grateful for HERO’s assistance in fulfilling many of our medical resource needs, especially the surgical instruments and biomedical equipment items that have been donated over the years”.

HERO doesn’t cover the cost of shipping to other countries or organizations such as Globus Relief. Our suggested handling fee for medical mission teams is $1 per pound of supplies. If they are unable to afford it, HERO waives their fee. The cost is covered by individuals in our community who believe in our organization and can see how we help countless people throughout the world.
